Mind
The things that have hurt us, negatively affect the mind, disrupting its delicate balance and triggering a cascade of emotional and psychological responses. The experience of trauma can overwhelm the brain's ability to process information, leading to symptoms such as hypervigilance, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts. It often alters the way individuals perceive themselves, others, and the world around them, shattering their sense of safety and trust. Trauma can also impair cognitive functions, affecting memory, attention, and decision-making abilities. Moreover, it can exacerbate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), creating a complex web of emotional and mental challenges. Healing from trauma requires a multifaceted approach that addresses both the physiological and psychological impact.
body
In moments of intense stress, the body's natural fight-or-flight response is activated, flooding the system with stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Prolonged exposure to trauma can dysregulate these stress response systems, leading to chronic inflammation, immune system suppression, and increased vulnerability to physical illness. Additionally, trauma can manifest in somatic symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension, gastrointestinal disturbances, and sleep disturbances. The body becomes a reservoir for unprocessed trauma, storing the emotional and psychological distress that remains unresolved. Healing from trauma involves addressing these bodily manifestations and restoring a sense of safety and equilibrium through holistic approaches that integrate physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.
spirit
We often are left feeling disconnected from ourselves, and others, and many times lack a sense of purpose. The experience of trauma can shatter one's beliefs about safety, trust, and the world around them, leading to a profound existential crisis. It can strip away a person's sense of identity and erode their faith, leaving them feeling isolated and spiritually adrift. Trauma can also disrupt one's connection to their inner wisdom, intuition, and resilience, leaving them feeling lost and powerless. Healing from trauma involves reclaiming a sense of spiritual wholeness and connection, rediscovering meaning and purpose in life, and nurturing a deep sense of self-compassion, forgiveness, and acceptance. It requires a journey of self-discovery and spiritual renewal, guided by compassion, empathy, and the belief in the inherent capacity for healing and transformation.

My passion for my calling and client rapport shines through every interaction. In a holistic, trauma-focused, and attachment-centered approach, I help clients find hope and restoration for a brighter future. This passion and calling led me to become the proud founder of
The Healing Cottage of the CSRA.
The Journey: In my 40s, I began a transformative journey of my own. As part of this journey, I returned to college. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Counseling and Magna Cum Laude with an MA in Clinical Pastoral Counseling.
My commitment to my clients includes ongoing training, which enables me to tailor my approach to meet each client's unique needs.
With a deep understanding of the effects of trauma on the body, spirit, and mind, I equip individuals and couples with tools and resources to help them find healing from past wounds, uncover solutions for present challenges, and acquire essential skills for a future filled with healthy, emotional intimacy, and effective communication. I am trained and experienced in counseling adults who have been victims of childhood trauma, including sexual trauma, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), low self-esteem, and shame. I have had the privilege of closely collaborating with and receiving training from Dr. Roger Boehm D.C.C PH.D., a specialist in DID Counseling.
I have 27 years of teaching, mentoring, public speaking, youth and women's ministry, as well as professional counseling, and coaching experience.
In 2006, I created a curriculum and began teaching a course to guide people in discovering their identity in Christ and recognizing their motivational spiritual gifts, equipping them to use these gifts both inside and outside the church.
In 2023, I began transforming this curriculum into an interactive workbook, and as of March 2024, it is published and available on Amazon at this link, https://a.co/d/2JnhXEL as well as in our office.

About Amanda
*IBCC Board Certified Mental Health Coach
*Nationally Certified Parenting Educator
*Child Advocacy Specialist
Over the past five years, I've been deeply involved in local judicial circuits, culminating in my role as a CASA Advocacy Specialist. My expertise in this realm, often equated with a Guardian Ad Litem, has been honed through various roles within a local non-profit.
Through extensive and national-level training I've gained insights into the profound impacts of foster care. My responsibilities have included supervising CASA Volunteer Advocates and co-facilitating CASA training, all while fostering meaningful relationships with families affected by foster care and professionals in the field.
Through these experiences, I've come to understand a critical truth: while well-intentioned, our judicial systems often lack the resources necessary to support struggling parents effectively, leading to long-term separation from their children. I firmly believe that what children truly need is not just foster care, but healthy parental figures. Just as an unhealthy parent cannot raise a healthy child, an unhealthy system cannot adequately nurture a child's well-being.
Moreover, my encounters extend beyond the realm of foster care, encompassing parents navigating the challenges of everyday life. Many seek parenting education to break unhealthy cycles, cultivate emotional well-being, and forge healthy attachment bonds with their children while constructively navigating discipline.
Drawing from my own journey as a mother of four, I understand firsthand what doesn't work, alongside invaluable insights into raising healthy and emotionally resilient children. I am passionate about partnering with you to assess your family dynamics, identify areas for improvement, and establish healthier habits and routines. I know that a large contributor to healthy parenting is being a healthier version of yourself and having healthy personal relationships. Together, let's face all of these topics hand in hand so that you can be the best parent possible for your children, and raise children who don't have to heal from their childhood.
With a diverse background spanning over 15 years in abortion support, mentoring, public speaking, child advocacy, homeschooling, and nearly 13 years of marriage, I am committed to meeting families where they are. Together, in the offices of The Healing Cottage, and in the comfort of your own home, we'll set achievable goals and work towards them ensuring a realistic timeline for progress.
